Roles & Responsibilities
- Take and document patient vitals accurately and with compassion
- Assist clinicians with outpatient procedures in urogynecology and gynecologic oncology
- Serve as a chaperone during exams to ensure patient comfort and safety
- Initiate and follow through on medication prior authorization requests
- Prepare and send referrals and authorization requests to coordinate patient care
- Chart patient encounters and procedure details in Cerner reliably
- Educate patients on pre- and post-procedure instructions and answer questions
- Maintain unit supplies and ensure procedure rooms are ready and compliant
Qualifications
- Current CMA certification (required)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (required)
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience (preferably in outpatient women’s health or related specialties)
- Comfort assisting with procedures and acting as a chaperone
- Experience with prior authorizations and sending referrals
- Familiarity with insurance processes in Kern County is strongly preferred
- Proficient with Cerner or similar EMR systems
- Strong communication skills and patient-centered bedside manner
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent; CMA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in obtaining and documenting vital signs
- Skilled in assisting clinicians during outpatient gynecologic and urogynecologic procedures
- Knowledge of medication prior authorization workflows
- Experience preparing and sending referrals to specialists
- Working knowledge of Kern County insurance practices and payer rules
- Charting and documentation best practices in Cerner
- Ability to maintain patient privacy, safety, and comfort during exams
