Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Variable/rotating day and night shifts (8-, 10- or 12-hour rotations). Typical night blocks: 4x10-hour (5:00 PM - 6:30 AM) and 3x12-hour (11:30 PM - 11:30 AM). Call required Monday-Friday, 9:00 PM - 6:30 AM. Weekend coverage: Saturday & Sunday 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 6:30 AM. Rotating day/night schedule with holiday and weekend coverage as needed.
Hours per Week: 38
Candidate Pay Rate: $60 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain a sterile field for complex neurosurgery, spine and orthopedic procedures
- Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments efficiently during high-acuity cases
- Process, sterilize and track instruments and scopes to ensure safe turnover
- Assist with robotic systems (Da Vinci series) and other specialized equipment as needed
- Accurately document perioperative care in Epic and support 1:1 patient ratios
- Respond quickly and calmly to Level I/II trauma activations and on-call emergencies
- Support teaching-hospital workflows and mentor colleagues and travelers during orientation
- Follow universal protocol (time-out), infection prevention and specimen handling standards
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of OR surgical technologist experience (travel experience preferred)
- At least 2 years of Level I or II Trauma OR experience; Level I preferred
- Experience in neurosurgery, spine and complex orthopedics (including bariatric/complex general surgery)
- BCLS/BLS required
- Experience with Epic charting preferred
- Teaching hospital experience required; LTAC and community hospital experience a plus
- Ability to work variable shifts, nights, weekends and participate in call rotations
- Surgical technologist certification (CST) or completion of an accredited surgical tech program preferred
Education
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent preferred
- Certification (CST) preferred; High school diploma or GED required
Knowledge & Skills
- Operating Room workflow and perioperative skills
- Aseptic technique and strict sterilization/disinfection practices
- Instrument processing, care of scopes and fiber optic equipment
- Familiarity with robotic platforms (Da Vinci Si/SP/Xi) and other specialty tools
- Trauma OR readiness and ability to function in high-pressure situations
- Specimen handling/labeling, cell saver use and crash cart familiarity
- Universal protocol (time-out), PPE/isolation precautions and sharps safety
- Strong teamwork, communication and Epic charting competency
