Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate psychiatric nursing care to patients in a correctional healthcare setting
• Perform thorough mental health assessments and document clinical findings clearly
• Administer medications and treatments safely and according to policy
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and correctional staff to promote safety and continuity of care
• Use de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to manage behavioral incidents
• Deliver patient education and support recovery-focused interventions
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation and adhere to facility protocols and regulations

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — California licensure preferred
• Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential accepted or experience in psychiatric care is a strong plus
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required; Psychiatric/Mental Health certifications valued
• Experience providing psychiatric or correctional nursing care preferred
• Strong communication skills, teamwork mindset, and ability to work in a structured facility environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) for RNs; LPT educational requirements for psychiatric technicians

Knowledge & Skills

• Assessment and triage of mental health conditions
• Medication administration and monitoring
• Crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
• Clinical documentation and familiarity with healthcare charting
• Infection control, safety protocols, and correctional environment awareness
• Collaborative care and effective communication with interdisciplinary teams
