Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, compassionate ICU nursing care to adult cardiac and medical ICU patients
- Manage and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators and support ventilated patients safely
- Start and maintain IVs; manage arterial, central, and PICC lines with precision
- Continuously monitor telemetry, promptly interpret dysrhythmias, and initiate appropriate interventions
- Administer and monitor blood products and critical medications, including titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Operate and manage CRRT/CVVHD therapies and interpret arterial blood gases for timely clinical decisions
- Perform procedural sedation monitoring and provide continuous IV sedation when indicated
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (RT, PT, Pharmacy, Rapid Response, etc.) to optimize patient outcomes
- Maintain strict infection prevention, isolation precautions, and PPE practices
- Document thoroughly and efficiently in EPIC to ensure continuity of care
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience (cardiac/medical ICU experience highly relevant)
- EPIC experience required; strong documentation skills expected
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (AHA certifications only)
- Flu vaccine required per facility guideline (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccination not required per facility guideline
- Comfortable working nights (3x12 schedule) and able to float to other units within the OSU organization as needed
- Ability to manage high-acuity patients (1:1–1:2 ratios) and respond quickly in emergencies
- Orientation requirement: 36 hours
Knowledge & Skills
- Ventilator management and care of ventilated patients
- IV therapy and IV starts
- Arterial line, central line, and PICC line management
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- CRRT/CVVHD operation and management
- ABG interpretation and use for clinical decision-making
- Blood product administration and transfusion safety
- BiPAP/CPAP and HFNC management
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips and emergency medication administration
- Infection prevention, isolation precautions, and PPE best practices
- Familiarity with IABP, Impella, pulmonary artery (Swan-Ganz) monitoring, and hemodynamic monitoring
