Shift Type: Night shifts, 8-hour nights (5x8 schedule), schedule is assigned by unit, alternating weekends and holiday coverage; must be able to float as needed

Candidate Pay Rate: $49 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and arterial blood gas (ABG) collections across inpatient departments with accuracy and compassion
- Collect specimens from patients of all ages, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and handling
- Use Cerner Pathways on a laptop to document collections and update patient records in a timely manner
- Adhere to infection control practices and safety protocols to protect patients and staff
- Float between departments as needed to meet patient care demands and maintain continuity of service
- Communicate clearly with nursing and lab staff to prioritize urgent draws and resolve specimen issues
- Participate in department-specific orientation and ongoing training to maintain high standards
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT I) via AAH required
- BLS certification required
- California CPA required for arterial blood gas (ABG) draws
- Minimum 2 years of hospital/inpatient phlebotomy experience
- Demonstrated ability to draw patients of all ages
- Willingness to work nights, alternating weekends, and holidays as scheduled
- Comfortable using laptop-based charting systems and following unit scheduling procedures
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT I) required
- BLS required
- California CPA required for ABG draws
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in Cerner Pathways and electronic documentation
- Skilled in venipuncture and arterial blood gas (ABG) collection techniques
- Strong specimen labeling, handling, and chain-of-custody awareness
- Excellent patient identification and communication skills
- Knowledgeable about infection control, safety protocols, and HIPAA
- Able to adapt quickly when floating between departments
