Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and manage critically ill trauma patients in an 8-bed TICU with bedside reporting
• Provide ventilator management and respiratory support in collaboration with 24/7 RT coverage
• Interpret EKG/telemetry strips and respond promptly to cardiac changes
• Deliver trauma-focused nursing care for conditions like MVCs, falls, and traumatic brain injuries
• Document patient care accurately in Cerner EMR and participate in interdisciplinary rounds
• Serve as charge nurse when scheduled, providing break relief and coordinating patient flow
• Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, pharmacy, and IV/resource teams for optimal care
• Precept new staff during the 1-2 day unit orientation and support team learning

Qualifications

• Current RN license (eligible to work in California)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU or TICU nursing experience
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, TNCC, NIHSS
• PALS preferred but not required
• Comfortable with ventilator management, telemetry, and Cerner charting
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and meet every-other-weekend staffing needs
• Able to provide 2 supervisory references at submittal (one within 12 months and one within 3 years)

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred but not required
• Active RN license in California required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, TNCC, NIHSS; PALS preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced critical care knowledge specific to trauma ICU
• Hands-on ventilator management and weaning experience
• EKG and telemetry interpretation proficiency
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record system
• Strong assessment and rapid decision-making skills in high-acuity situations
• Effective interdisciplinary communication and teamwork
• Charge nurse duties including coordination of break relief and unit flow
• Flexibility for occasional float to other Sacramento facilities
