Roles & Responsibilities
- Scrub and assist as the singular scrub for cardiothoracic procedures, maintaining sterile technique and precise instrument handling
- Prepare case carts and specialty instrumentation for a high-volume OR (approx. 55 surgical cases/day)
- Perform care and reprocessing of flexible endoscopes and fiber optic equipment with attention to infection prevention
- Anticipate surgeon needs and deliver instruments and supplies promptly during cases such as CABG, VATS, valve repairs, and transplant procedures
- Follow Universal Protocol (time-out) procedures and specimen handling/labeling to ensure patient safety and accurate documentation
- Float to General OR as needed, supporting diverse cases across specialties to keep the team running smoothly
- Participate in on-call coverage per unit requirements and assist with emergent trauma or complex cases when needed
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years perioperative/OR experience (experience and exposure may affect requirements)
- Proven ability to scrub complex cardiothoracic and laparoscopic cases (singular scrub per CT cases required)
- BLS certification (preferred)
- NBSTSA certification (preferred)
- Washington state registration noted (ability to obtain WA registration is important)
- Comfort floating to general OR and willingness to learn new procedures quickly
- Ability to participate in call rotation (weekday and occasional weekend)
Knowledge & Skills
- Aseptic technique and sharps safety with meticulous attention to sterile field
- Specimen handling and labeling to support accurate pathology and patient records
- Care of scopes and fiber optic equipment, including flexible endoscope reprocessing
- Case cart assembly and instrument management for high-acuity cardiac, thoracic, and laparoscopic cases
- Experience with bronchoscopy, EGD, EBUS, and endoscopic procedures preferred
- Familiarity with cardiothoracic procedures (CABG, valve repairs, VAD, ECMO support) and general surgery
- Quick learner, team player, and effective communicator in high-pressure OR environments
