Roles & Responsibilities
- Process and validate electronic claims (EDI) accurately and efficiently to keep revenue flowing
- Troubleshoot EDI transmission issues and coordinate with clearinghouses and payers to resolve denials
- Analyze claim rejections, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to reduce recurrence
- Collaborate with billing, coding, and provider relations teams to ensure clean claim submission
- Maintain documentation of workflows, exceptions, and resolution steps for audit readiness
- Generate and review regular reports on claim status, trends, and performance metrics
- Support process improvement initiatives to enhance throughput, accuracy, and payer compliance
Qualifications
- Experience working with EDI claims formats and clearinghouse processes (X12 knowledge a plus)
- Familiarity with claims adjudication, payer edits, and common denial reasons
- Strong attention to detail and proven ability to manage high-volume transactions
- Proficient with Excel and basic reporting tools; comfortable learning new claims systems
- Excellent communication skills for cross-functional coordination with clinical and non-clinical teams
- Prior experience in medical billing, revenue cycle, or health information management preferred
Education
- Associate degree or higher in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of EDI standards (X12, ANSI) and claims transmission workflows
- Knowledge of payer requirements, remittance advice, and ERA/835 processing
- Ability to interpret claim rejection codes and payer response messages
- Problem-solving mindset with strong analytical and organizational skills
- Customer-service orientation when working with internal stakeholders and external payers
