Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert high-acuity nursing care for surgical, trauma, spinal and neuro patients
- Respond quickly and effectively to trauma activations and emergency situations
- Perform thorough, accurate patient handoffs with ED and admitting teams to ensure continuity of care
- Coordinate care with phlebotomists, unit secretaries, and nursing support techs to optimize patient flow
- Manage a patient assignment consistent with a 5:1 ratio while maintaining safety and quality
- Document assessments, interventions and care plans in EPIC in a timely, professional manner
- Mentor and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support complex patient needs
Qualifications
- BLS required
- ACLS preferred
- EPIC experience required
- Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty (trauma/surgical/high-acuity)
- Comfortable caring for spinal, neuro, trauma and complex surgical patients
- Willingness to work given/rotating shifts (no block schedules)
Knowledge & Skills
- High-acuity and trauma nursing expertise
- Surgical postop and neuro/spinal patient care knowledge
- Strong patient handoff and communication skills
- Proficiency with EPIC documentation and charting
- Ability to prioritize in fast-paced, high-stakes situations
- Team collaboration with support techs, phlebotomy and admitting/ED nurses
