Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care for neonates, infants, children and adolescents in a busy pediatric OR
• Prepare patients and families for procedures with compassion, clear communication and age-appropriate education
• Perform safe scrub and circulating duties across a wide variety of pediatric surgical specialties
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists and the multidisciplinary team to ensure smooth, timely procedures
• Maintain accurate Epic charting and documentation to support quality patient care and continuity
• Respond effectively to codes and emergency situations, following established protocols and team roles
• Adhere to infection control, universal protocol and equipment safety standards in all cases
• Assist with orientation of new staff and share best practices to strengthen the unit

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license (required)
• AHA BLS (required)
• PALS (required)
• Minimum 3 years RN experience overall with at least 2 years pediatric OR experience
• Trauma Level I OR experience (required); Trauma Level II experience is a plus
• Epic charting experience (required)
• COVID-19 vaccine + booster required (medical or religious exemptions only)
• CNOR and Ambulatory OR experience preferred but not required
• Travel experience not required — first-time travelers are welcome
• Ability to float to other UCSF campuses as needed

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing skills across pediatric specialties: general, trauma, cardiac, ENT, ortho, urology and more
• Proficiency with Epic electronic charting and documentation workflows
• Familiarity with pediatric airway, vascular access and anesthesia-related monitoring
• Experience with equipment like cell saver, electrosurgical units and specialty tables
• Strong infection control, specimen handling and universal timeout protocol knowledge
• Emergency management skills including code response and malignant hyperthermia awareness
• Comfort working in high-acuity, multidisciplinary team-based environments
