Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM Day; 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM Night), 6-week scheduling cycle, every-other-weekend requirement, holiday rotation; night-focused assignments available

Candidate Pay Rate: $64 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess adult PCU/stepdown patients promptly and comprehensively to guide care
- Administer medications and perform IV therapy safely and accurately
- Interpret telemetry and respond to cardiac/stroke-related changes with clinical urgency
- Titrate drips (heparin, octreotide, insulin and other titratable drips) per protocol
- Document thoroughly in EPIC to ensure clear, team-wide communication
- Collaborate with charge nurses, unit secretaries and support staff to maintain smooth patient flow
- Support high-volume admissions, transfers and discharges while maintaining patient safety
- Operate specialty equipment (code cart, LUCAS, Hoyer lift, Sit-to-Stand) and train when needed
- Float to appropriate areas (Med/Surg, ICU, ED) as required, providing competent care across settings
- Complete orientation requirements, including the open-book skills exam, and meet unit standards
Qualifications
- Current RN license eligible for practice in Nebraska
- Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience (PCU/stepdown, med/surg, cardiac or stroke preferred)
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (current)
- Comfortable and experienced with telemetry monitoring and interpretation
- Proficient with EPIC charting or similar electronic health record systems
- Valid driver's license required at submittal (used to confirm 50-mile radius eligibility)
- Willingness to comply with facility policies (e.g., artificial nails prohibited for patient care)
- Ability to pass orientation skills assessment (90% required to continue on contract)
- Able and willing to float to ICU/ED when appropriate
Education
- Active RN license (ADN or BSN). BSN not required but welcomed.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment and critical thinking for high-flow PCU settings
- Medication administration and IV drip titration skills
- Telemetry interpretation and cardiac/stroke recognition
- Experience with code response and familiarity with code cart workflow
- Safe patient handling: LUCAS device, Hoyer lift and sit-to-stand transfers
- Effective interdisciplinary communication and teamwork
- Ability to manage multiple admissions, transfers and discharges efficiently
- Accurate and timely documentation in EPIC
