Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality post-operative and perioperative nursing care for orthopedic surgery patients
- Monitor patients’ vital signs, neurovascular status, and pain levels with attention to detail
- Administer medications and IV therapies safely and document accurately
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
- Educate patients and families on post-op care, mobility, and discharge planning
- Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and escalate concerns appropriately
- Maintain clear, timely charting in the electronic medical record and support continuity of care
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — North Carolina licensure or compact RN eligibility preferred
- Minimum 2+ years of clinical nursing experience (Orthopedic Surgery experience strongly preferred)
- Current BLS certification required; advanced certifications (ACLS, ortho-specific courses) preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage post-surgical patients and complex pain control plans
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in fast-paced surgical units
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Clinical assessment and post-operative nursing care specific to orthopedics
- Pain management strategies and safe opioid/non-opioid administration
- Wound care, dressing changes, and infection prevention practices
- IV medication administration and infusion pump management
- Familiarity with surgical workflows, sterile technique, and perioperative protocols
- Comfortable using electronic medical record systems and documenting care clearly
- Teamwork, prioritization, and critical thinking in acute care settings
