Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality respiratory care and treatments for patients with respiratory insufficiency, asthma, pneumonia and COPD
- Manage and titrate mechanical ventilation, ensuring appropriate ventilator settings and patient comfort
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and adjust therapy promptly and accurately
- Set up, monitor and troubleshoot ventilators and noninvasive support (Servo I, Hamilton, V60, Astral, CPAP/BiPAP)
- Provide therapeutic procedures such as nebulizer therapy, chest physiotherapy (CPT) and airway management
- Document patient assessment, interventions and clinical response clearly in Meditech EMR
- Collaborate closely with nurses, physicians and the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
- Participate in emergency responses and apply NRP and ACLS protocols when indicated
Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential (required)
- Current BLS, ACLS and NRP certifications (must have)
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care hospital RRT experience (required)
- Experience with Meditech EMR preferred by leadership
- Trauma experience preferred and valued for this unit
- Comfort and demonstrated skill managing a range of ventilators and noninvasive equipment
- Strong clinical judgment, teamwork mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Education
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required; completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Mechanical ventilation management and ventilator troubleshooting
- ABG interpretation and appropriate respiratory interventions
- CPAP/BiPAP setup, monitoring and titration
- Experience with ventilator models: Servo I, Hamilton, V60 and Astral
- Proficiency with Meditech electronic medical records
- Familiarity with nebulizer therapy, CPT and other respiratory procedures
- Critical care and trauma patient management skills
- Effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
