Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, family-centered critical care to pediatric patients in the PICU
• Monitor and manage ventilators and advanced respiratory support with vigilance
• Titrate critical drips including sedation, vasoactive agents and paralytics safely and accurately
• Perform timely assessments, documentation in Meditech/Pyxis, and handoffs that keep the team informed
• Assist with and perform procedures such as intubation/extubation, spinal taps, and port access
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary team to create and execute care plans
• Provide clear education and compassionate support to patients’ families during stressful times
• Prioritize and multitask effectively in high-acuity situations while maintaining patient safety

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license (eligible to practice in Louisiana)
• Minimum 1 year of pediatric ICU nursing experience (required)
• Current ACLS, BLS and PALS certifications (required)
• Proven experience with ventilator management, medication titration and pediatric critical care
• Comfortable using Meditech EMR and Pyxis medication systems
• Ability to float to NICU, nursery or OB/GYN areas if qualified and needed
• Strong critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) and current RN license in good standing

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric critical care assessment and interventions
• Ventilator management and respiratory support modalities (BiPAP, high flow, ventilators)
• Medication titration for sedation, vasoactive drips and paralytics
• Familiarity with Meditech EMR and Pyxis medication systems
• Experience with Alaris IV pumps, Kangaroo feeding pumps and infant warmers
• EKG/EEG interpretation basics and telemetry monitoring
• Excellent prioritization, multi-tasking and family-centered communication
