Roles & Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry to detect and respond to changes in patient condition
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care for telemetry and post–heart cath patients
- Manage complex IV therapies including medication drips and PCA/IV pump administration
- Perform central line and chest tube care using strict aseptic technique
- Document patient assessments and interventions accurately in Meditech
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and execute individualized care plans
- Educate patients and families about their cardiac condition, recovery expectations, and discharge plan
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state requirements apply)
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience (Telemetry or cardiac care preferred)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Hands-on experience with telemetry monitoring, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and heart cath recovery
- Comfortable with Meditech EMR and common bedside equipment (IV pumps, PCA pumps)
- Experience with central line management, chest tube care, and medication drips
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong telemetry and cardiac monitoring skills
- Proficiency with Meditech documentation and electronic charting
- Competence managing IV therapies, PCA pumps, and medication drips
- Ability to care for chest tubes and central lines with attention to infection prevention
- Critical thinking and the ability to triage rapidly in a busy telemetry unit
- Effective communication and teamwork with physicians, techs, and support staff
