Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care for cardiovascular surgery patients before, during, and after procedures
- Monitor hemodynamics and telemetry closely, intervening promptly and communicating changes to the surgical and critical care teams
- Assist with perioperative and post-operative patient management, including wound care and drain management
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary staff to coordinate safe patient care
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation and escalate concerns to ensure the best outcomes
- Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge planning
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement efforts and safety initiatives
Qualifications
- Active RN licensure (eligible to work as an RN in Texas or via Nursing Licensure Compact)
- 1 year clinical experience (as stated in posting) — experience in cardiovascular surgery or related acute care is highly relevant
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS preferred
- Comfort with travel nurse assignments and the flexibility to work on a contract/temporary basis
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of cardiovascular surgical patient care and post-operative management
- Skill with telemetry interpretation and hemodynamic monitoring
- Proficient in sterile technique, central line and drain care, and IV management
- Ability to triage, prioritize, and respond quickly in fast-paced surgical environments
- Effective patient and family education and bedside manner
