Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, compassionate post-operative and critical cardiac care to CVICU patients
• Monitor hemodynamics, interpret cardiac rhythms, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
• Administer and titrate complex infusions and medications safely and accurately
• Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, respiratory therapists, and the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Perform thorough assessments and maintain timely, precise documentation in the medical record
• Educate patients and families about postoperative care, recovery expectations, and discharge planning
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and safety practices to enhance care

Qualifications

• Active RN license (ability to obtain Texas licensure or a valid compact privilege)
• Minimum 1 year of CVICU or relevant critical care experience
• BLS and ACLS certification required; CCRN or other critical care certification preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication
• Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a team-oriented environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced knowledge of post-cardiac surgery care and cardiac monitoring
• Hemodynamic monitoring and vasoactive medication management
• Ventilator management and respiratory support understanding
• EKG interpretation and arrhythmia recognition
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and clear clinical documentation
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and perform in high-acuity situations
