Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess speech, language, cognition, and swallowing function to establish clear baselines
- Develop individualized treatment plans that address functional goals and quality of life
- Provide skilled therapy services using evidence-based techniques and clear documentation
- Collaborate with nurses, occupational therapists, and family members to coordinate care
- Track patient progress, update goals, and communicate outcomes to the interdisciplinary team
- Educate patients and caregivers on strategies to maximize communication and safety
Qualifications
- Licensed or eligible for Texas Speech-Language Pathologist licensure
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred but not required
- Previous experience in skilled nursing facility, inpatient rehab, or related setting preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and communication skills
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and a patient-centered approach
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent graduate degree
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in assessment and treatment of dysphagia, aphasia, and cognitive-communication disorders
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and timely clinical documentation
- Ability to create measurable, functional treatment goals
- Strong interdisciplinary collaboration and patient education skills
- Time management and caseload prioritization for a busy skilled nursing environment
