Roles & Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate the patient care team to deliver individualized, high-quality Med/Surg care
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the nursing process for all ages
- Develop and update patient care plans in partnership with physicians, patients, and families
- Perform thorough patient assessments and document findings clearly and accurately
- Provide safe, evidence-based interventions and monitor patient responses
- Promote teamwork and effective communication with medical staff across the hospital
- Adhere to hospital policies including confidentiality, advance directives, and ADA requirements
- Function independently while escalating concerns and collaborating when necessary
Qualifications
- Current RN licensure in the State of Maine or authorization pending licensure by endorsement
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current BLS required
- ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire
- Demonstrated Med/Surg nursing experience and comfort with patient assessment and care planning
- Strong documentation, communication, and computer skills
- Ability to function independently and work effectively in a team
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing)
Knowledge & Skills
- Med/Surg nursing principles and patient care workflows
- Nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation
- Patient assessment across the lifespan (pediatric to geriatric)
- Care planning and accurate clinical documentation
- Basic and advanced life support (BLS, ACLS, PALS)
- Effective communication and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Familiarity with hospital policies on confidentiality and advance directives
- Proficient computer skills for electronic charting and documentation
