Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough psychiatric evaluations and formulate individualized treatment plans
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications safely and effectively
• Provide crisis assessment and stabilization when needed
• Collaborate with mental health clinicians, nursing staff, and prison program teams to coordinate care
• Document assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes clearly and in a timely manner
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences to optimize patient outcomes
• Fulfill on-call duties as assigned and respond to emergent psychiatric needs

Qualifications

• MD or DO with completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program
• Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry preferred
• Active California medical license required or ability to obtain prior to start
• DEA registration or ability to obtain
• Experience in adult psychiatry, mental health treatment, and familiarity with correctional or forensic settings preferred
• Strong clinical documentation skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to pass facility background checks and any required health screenings

Education

• MD or DO in Medicine with completed residency in Psychiatry

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical expertise in psychiatric assessment and psychopharmacology
• Comfort managing acute and chronic mental health conditions
• Skilled communicator with patients, families, and care teams
• Good judgment in crisis and risk assessment situations
• Familiarity with evidence-based treatment approaches for serious mental illness
• Ability to maintain timely, accurate documentation and meet regulatory requirements
