Roles & Responsibilities
- Evaluate residents' functional abilities and design individualized occupational therapy plans that promote independence
- Implement evidence-based interventions focused on ADLs, mobility, cognition, and upper-extremity function
- Collaborate closely with nurses, PTs, SLPs and other team members to create coordinated, person-centered care plans
- Document timely, thorough progress notes and maintain accurate treatment records in the facility EMR
- Provide family and caregiver education to support carryover of therapeutic gains at home
- Supervise therapy assistants and support staff while ensuring safe, effective patient care
- Participate in care conferences and discharge planning to optimize outcomes and transitions
Qualifications
- Current Occupational Therapy license in Virginia or eligibility to obtain licensure
- Graduation from an accredited occupational therapy program
- NBCOT certification preferred or willingness to pursue as required
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Experience or strong interest in skilled nursing/geriatric care and rehabilitation
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate across disciplines
Education
- Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program (BS/MS/OTD as applicable)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in functional assessments and developing measurable treatment goals
- Knowledge of interventions for ADLs, adaptive equipment, and compensatory strategies
- Familiarity with skilled nursing workflows, regulatory documentation, and care planning
- Comfortable with charting in electronic medical records and maintaining compliance
- Excellent clinical reasoning, patient education, and family engagement abilities
