Roles & Responsibilities

• Evaluate residents' functional abilities and design individualized occupational therapy plans that promote independence
• Implement evidence-based interventions focused on ADLs, mobility, cognition, and upper-extremity function
• Collaborate closely with nurses, PTs, SLPs and other team members to create coordinated, person-centered care plans
• Document timely, thorough progress notes and maintain accurate treatment records in the facility EMR
• Provide family and caregiver education to support carryover of therapeutic gains at home
• Supervise therapy assistants and support staff while ensuring safe, effective patient care
• Participate in care conferences and discharge planning to optimize outcomes and transitions

Qualifications

• Current Occupational Therapy license in Virginia or eligibility to obtain licensure
• Graduation from an accredited occupational therapy program
• NBCOT certification preferred or willingness to pursue as required
• Current CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
• Experience or strong interest in skilled nursing/geriatric care and rehabilitation
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate across disciplines

Education

• Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program (BS/MS/OTD as applicable)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in functional assessments and developing measurable treatment goals
• Knowledge of interventions for ADLs, adaptive equipment, and compensatory strategies
• Familiarity with skilled nursing workflows, regulatory documentation, and care planning
• Comfortable with charting in electronic medical records and maintaining compliance
• Excellent clinical reasoning, patient education, and family engagement abilities
