Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor maternal and fetal status using AWHONN-standard fetal heart monitoring and act decisively when changes arise
• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care throughout labor and delivery
• Perform neonatal resuscitation and participate in team-based emergency responses per NRP/ACLS guidelines
• Collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate safe patient care
• Complete accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and maintain license/certification compliance
• Educate patients and families about labor progress, fetal monitoring findings, postpartum care, and infant safety
• Demonstrate competency through Trinity specialty testing and skills checklists to ensure high-quality care

Qualifications

• Active RN license required (Illinois licensure or compact RN eligibility)
• Current BLS certification required
• Current ACLS and NRP certifications required
• AWHONN or equivalent Fetal Heart Monitoring certification required
• Successful license/certificate verification and ability to meet Trinity health and testing requirements
• Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, immunizations, and fit testing per facility policy

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred where available

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in fetal heart monitoring interpretation and maternal fetal assessment
• Competent in neonatal resuscitation and immediate postpartum/newborn care
• Strong clinical judgment and ability to act quickly in urgent situations
• Proficient with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Excellent communication, patient education, and interdisciplinary teamwork skills
• Detail-oriented with a focus on patient safety and adherence to hospital policies
