Roles & Responsibilities
- Facilitate safe, efficient intraoperative procedures by maintaining strict sterile and aseptic technique
- Perform accurate instrument, sponge, and sharp counts to ensure patient safety
- Prepare and verify operating room equipment and notify appropriate personnel of any issues
- Collaborate with RNs, anesthesia, and the surgical team to support seamless patient care
- Position patients safely and operate or support the use of electrical and power equipment
- Assist during patient code/critical situations and contribute to effective team response
- Maintain up-to-date preference cards and accurate timekeeping records
- Participate in mandatory in‑services, skills reviews, and share knowledge with new staff
Qualifications
- BLS certification required
- Surgical Technologist Certification (preferred)
- Associate Degree preferred
- Proven ability to perform scrubbing technique and maintain sterile field
- Competence in instrument, sponge and sharp counts and OR workflow
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to take initiative
- Willingness to attend required trainings and maintain accurate timekeeping
Education
- Associate Degree preferred
- Surgical Technologist Certification preferred
- BLS required
Knowledge & Skills
- Sterile and aseptic technique with scrubbing proficiency
- Instrument, sponge, and sharp counts
- Intraoperative assistance and operating room equipment operation
- Infection control and adherence to AORN/AST standards
- Patient positioning and safe use of electrical/power equipment
- Preference card maintenance and basic timekeeping
