Roles & Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, and maintain autoclaves and sterilization equipment to ensure safe use
• Perform decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of instruments and supplies
• Run and document biological and chemical testing according to daily protocols
• Wrap, package and prepare trays and supplies following sterilization principles and manufacturer instructions
• Process contaminated items safely and ensure correct handling and storage
• Maintain accurate records, logs and documentation for compliance and quality
• Assist with training and in‑services for new and existing staff
• Manage supply requisitions and coordinate with Materials Management and vendors
• Deliver and receive surgical supplies and support hospital departments as needed
• Adhere to safety, privacy, and compliance policies consistently

Qualifications

• Certified CRCST (required)
• CER certification (required)
• Basic computer skills and ability to maintain accurate electronic/paper records
• Strong communication skills to work with department staff, medical personnel, and vendors
• Reliable attendance and flexibility to extend shifts when patient care demands it
• Ability to frequently lift up to 35 pounds and to push/pull heavier loads with assistive devices
• Visual acuity (correctable to 20/20) and color vision; normal hearing acuity
• Willingness to follow sterile technique and infection control standards

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterilization principles and aseptic technique
• Autoclave operation, loading, cleaning and basic troubleshooting
• Decontamination and instrument processing workflows
• Tray assembly, packaging and sterile wrap techniques
• Biological and chemical testing procedures and documentation
• Inventory control, materials management and vendor coordination
• Record keeping, clerical tasks and basic computer competency
• Attention to detail, manual dexterity and safe handling of sharps and instruments
