Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess patients’ functional abilities and create individualized occupational therapy plans
- Deliver skilled OT interventions to help patients regain independence in daily activities
- Document assessments, progress and plans accurately in EPIC
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians and other therapists to coordinate patient-centered care
- Educate patients and families on therapeutic techniques and safe home strategies
- Participate in discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions and safe outcomes
- Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress and clinical reasoning
- Help maintain a safe, efficient unit by following hospital policies and best practices
Qualifications
- Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR) via NBCOT (required)
- BLS (AHA) certification (required)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in inpatient acute care
- Experience with EPIC charting (documenting in EPIC is part of the role)
- License to submit candidates indicates active state OT licensure is required
- Willingness to complete a 12-hour orientation to get acclimated to the unit
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical assessment and treatment planning skills for inpatient acute patients
- Skilled in ADL/IADL interventions and mobility/upper-extremity therapeutic techniques
- Proficient documentation practices and familiarity with EPIC
- Excellent communication and interdisciplinary teamwork
- Time management and caseload prioritization in a fast-paced hospital setting
- Patient- and family-centered education skills
