Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and evidence-based treatment for patients in a substance abuse treatment setting
• Develop and manage individualized treatment plans focused on mental health and recovery
• Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, adjusting treatment as needed
• Collaborate closely with counselors, nursing staff, and corrections/program staff to coordinate care
• Lead clinical meetings and participate in multidisciplinary team discussions to improve outcomes
• Document clinical encounters thoroughly and maintain compliance with facility and regulatory requirements
• Support training and mentorship during the 2-week orientation period and beyond

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree with completed residency in Psychiatry
• Active California medical license or ability to obtain prior to start
• Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry preferred
• Experience working with mental health populations and substance use disorder treatment
• DEA registration or ability to obtain for prescribing controlled substances
• Comfort collaborating in a structured treatment environment and with multidisciplinary teams
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred

Education

• MD or DO with Psychiatry residency completion

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical skills in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management
• Experience with substance abuse treatment modalities and relapse prevention
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients and team members
• Familiarity with documentation standards and regulatory compliance in clinical settings
• Ability to work effectively in a secure or structured treatment facility environment
