Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert neonatal clinical care across a regional perinatal center and affiliated Level 2 NICU
- Lead and manage NICU operations as Medical Director or support as Associate Medical Director
- Oversee advanced respiratory and therapeutic services including high-frequency ventilation, whole body cooling, and inhaled nitric oxide
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary pediatric, maternal-fetal medicine, and surgical subspecialists to optimize patient care
- Support medical education by working with Virginia Tech School of Medicine students and residents
- Drive quality improvement initiatives and participate in regional neonatal research efforts
- Participate in leadership meetings, committees, and ensure compliance with hospital policies
- Provide day-to-day clinical coverage plus scheduled on-call and weekend responsibilities
Qualifications
- Neonatology clinical experience with demonstrated competence in NICU care
- Clinical leadership experience for Medical Director or strong interest in associate leadership duties
- Experience with high-frequency ventilation, therapeutic hypothermia (whole body cooling) and nitric oxide therapy
- Comfortable providing day clinical coverage plus on-call and weekend duties
- Eligibility for or possession of an active Virginia medical license (or ability to obtain one)
- J-1 visa candidates accepted (J-1 sponsorship available); Locum candidates not accepted
Education
- MD or DO with completion of pediatric residency and neonatology fellowship (or equivalent training)
- Board certification or board eligibility in Neonatology is expected
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced knowledge of neonatal care and NICU operations
- Proficiency in advanced respiratory support modalities and neonatal therapeutics
- Experience with quality improvement, clinical research, and medical education
- Strong multidisciplinary collaboration and team leadership skills
- Ability to mentor trainees and contribute to an academic teaching environment
- Operational oversight skills for managing NICU workflows and policies
