Roles & Responsibilities
- Evaluate patient outcomes and adjust the respiratory plan of care within the multidisciplinary team
- Provide clear explanations and instructions to patients and families about respiratory conditions, treatments and discharge plans
- Deliver respiratory therapies as ordered, maintaining close communication with medical and nursing staff
- Accept reassignment to different units when needed to support patient care
- Share clinical knowledge with staff and students and serve as a role model for best practices
- Plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of respiratory care interventions
Qualifications
- RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) certification — required
- Valid Illinois respiratory license — required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) — required
- NRP-MHC certification — required
- Associate's degree in Respiratory Care — required
- Comfort with unit reassignment and working collaboratively across disciplines
- Clinical precepting or mentorship experience is a plus
Education
- Associate's degree in Respiratory Care (required)

- Hands-on respiratory care and patient assessment
- Care planning and evaluating patient outcomes
- Patient education and clear, compassionate communication
- Interdisciplinary communication and multidisciplinary team collaboration
- Ability to accept unit reassignment and adapt to different clinical settings
- Clinical precepting and mentoring skills
