Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality primary care to adult patients in a correctional facility setting
• Perform focused history and physical exams and develop patient-centered care plans
• Manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and COPD with evidence-based treatments
• Prescribe medications safely and monitor therapeutic effectiveness in line with facility policies
• Document encounters clearly and timely in the electronic health record
• Coordinate care and referrals with facility staff, specialists, and ancillary services
• Participate in clinical training, staff meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
• Ensure compliance with correctional health protocols, safety standards, and reporting requirements

Qualifications

• MD or DO with valid and active state medical license or eligibility for CA licensure
• Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine preferred
• Active DEA registration or ability to obtain one as required
• Current BLS; ACLS preferred or able to obtain
• Experience in primary care or outpatient medicine; correctional health experience is a plus
• Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and comfort working in a multidisciplinary team

Education

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
• Completion of an accredited residency in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical assessment and management of common acute and chronic conditions
• Medication management and safe prescribing practices
• Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation
• Ability to work within protocols and follow regulatory and security guidelines
• Patient-centered communication and culturally competent care
• Team collaboration with nursing, mental health, and custody staff
