Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients quickly and accurately to prioritize care and interventions
• Administer medications and treatments safely and in line with facility protocols
• Monitor patient conditions, recognize changes, and escalate concerns promptly
• Perform focused assessments such as NIHSS for stroke patients and trauma assessments guided by TNCC principles
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create and implement patient-centered care plans
• Document care thoroughly and clearly in the electronic medical record
• Provide compassionate patient and family education to support recovery and discharge planning
• Participate in unit competency testing and continuous quality improvement activities

Qualifications

• Active RN licensure appropriate for Iowa (license/certificate verification required)
• Current BLS required
• Current ACLS required
• Current TNCC required
• NIHSS certification required
• Completion of Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Trinity Skills Checklist
• Ability to work every third weekend and participate in every other holiday rotation
• Successful completion of required pre-placement health screenings

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
• Experience with stroke assessment using NIHSS
• Trauma-focused knowledge consistent with TNCC principles
• Proficiency in ACLS protocols and emergency response
• Medication administration and IV therapy skills
• Clear, concise documentation and electronic charting
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Infection control practices and adherence to immunization requirements
