Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric evaluations and evidence-based treatment to patients in a correctional mental health setting
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications safely and in accordance with state and facility guidelines
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary mental health teams to develop and update treatment plans
• Document clinical encounters clearly and timely in the patient record system
• Participate in weekend coverage and ensure continuity of care during assigned shifts
• Assess acuity and coordinate with facility staff for transfers or urgent needs as required

Qualifications

• MD or DO with completed residency in Psychiatry
• Active California medical license or eligibility to obtain one promptly
• Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry preferred
• Current DEA registration or ability to obtain prior to start
• Experience or interest in correctional psychiatry or working with complex forensic populations preferred
• Ability to pass background checks and meet facility credentialing requirements
• Strong clinical judgment and excellent communication skills

Education

• MD or DO, completed psychiatry residency

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in psychiatric assessment and medication management
• Familiarity with crisis intervention and risk assessment
• Comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in a secure setting
• Good documentation skills and familiarity with electronic health records
• Ability to work independently and manage clinical priorities during weekend coverage
