Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality psychiatric evaluations and ongoing management for incarcerated patients
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications safely and effectively
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary mental health teams to develop and implement treatment plans
• Document clinical encounters clearly and timely in the electronic medical record
• Perform crisis assessments and intervene appropriately to maintain patient and facility safety
• Communicate professionally with facility staff to coordinate continuity of care

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree with completed residency in Psychiatry
• Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry preferred
• California medical license required or ability to obtain prior to start
• Current DEA registration or ability to obtain prior to start
• Prior experience in correctional health, forensic psychiatry, or complex mental health settings preferred
• Strong clinical documentation skills and ability to work independently on-site

Education

• MD or DO with completed Psychiatry residency

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical expertise in psychopharmacology and psychiatric assessment
• Familiarity with crisis intervention and risk assessment
• Ability to work within correctional facility policies and safety protocols
• Clear, compassionate communication with patients and colleagues
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and timely documentation
• Good clinical decision-making in high-acuity or resource-limited settings
