Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist chairside during exams and procedures, ensuring patient comfort and efficient workflow
- Prepare and maintain treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, and follow strict infection control practices
- Take and process dental radiographs as allowed by scope and facility policy
- Support patient intake and discharge, document procedures and maintain accurate patient records
- Manage dental materials and inventory to keep the clinic running smoothly
- Collaborate with the dental team and facility staff to deliver safe, respectful care in the correctional setting
Qualifications
- Active Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification/class required
- Completion of an accredited dental assisting program preferred
- Comfortable working Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
- Willingness to follow facility policies at ISP - Ironwood State Prison
- Professional communication skills and a patient-centered attitude
- Length of orientation: 2 weeks
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited dental assisting program preferred
- Active RDA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Chairside assisting techniques and familiarity with common dental procedures
- Infection control, sterilization, and safe handling of dental instruments
- Familiarity with dental terminology, materials, and basic instruments
- Experience or training in dental radiography is a plus
- Strong documentation skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work calmly and professionally in a correctional healthcare environment
