Roles & Responsibilities

• Round on cardiovascular surgery patients across CVICU, CVSU and vascular services to ensure consistent, high-quality care
• Support cardiac and vascular surgeons by managing inpatient patient lists, performing thorough assessments and coordinating care plans
• Lead safe and timely discharges, communicating clearly with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams
• Provide on-call triage and decision-making as part of the 1-in-4 call rotation (first call from home)
• Manage weekend patient coverage independently, taking ownership of the day’s patient list
• Document all clinical encounters accurately and efficiently in Epic to support continuity and billing
• Collaborate with nursing, case management and ancillary services to optimize patient flow and outcomes

Qualifications

• Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) or equivalent credential
• Active or eligible Michigan PA license (ability to obtain state licensure prior to start)
• Experience or strong interest in cardiovascular surgery, CVICU or vascular surgery patient care
• Proven inpatient experience with patient rounding and managing high-acuity lists
• Comfort functioning independently during weekend coverage and on-call periods
• Familiarity with Epic or similar EMR; strong documentation skills
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS preferred or willing to obtain

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
• NCCPA certification preferred or equivalent national certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in inpatient patient rounding and care coordination
• Knowledge of cardiovascular surgery and vascular patient needs
• Experience supporting surgeons and working in multidisciplinary teams
• Comfort managing CVICU and step-down level patients
• Strong triage and on-call decision-making skills
• Proficient documentation skills within Epic
• Ability to manage discharges and transitions of care efficiently
