Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating day coverage: 4 days/week, 10-hour shifts (exact start/end times not specified), 1 in 4 weeks on-call (first call from home), and 1 weekend shift per month (independent weekend coverage). Day-shift focused, Level 1 Trauma Center responsibilities.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Round on CVICU, CVSU and vascular patients, delivering comprehensive inpatient care
- Manage discharges and coordinate transitions of care to optimize patient outcomes
- Collaborate closely with cardiac and vascular surgeons to develop and implement care plans
- Provide scheduled on-call coverage, triaging and managing clinical issues (first call from home)
- Document thoroughly and accurately in Epic to ensure continuity and safe handoffs
- Support quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and unit-based teamwork
- Independently manage weekend coverage and the associated patient census when scheduled
Qualifications
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) or eligible to obtain Michigan NP licensure prior to start
- Master’s degree (MSN) or post-graduate NP certificate (see Education section)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (or ability to obtain prior to start)
- Experience in cardiovascular surgery, CVICU/CVSU, vascular care, or critical care preferred
- Comfort with inpatient rounding, discharge management, and independent decision-making
- Proficiency with Epic or similar electronic medical record systems
- Prior locum/contract experience is a plus but not required
Education
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or post-graduate Nurse Practitioner certificate
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong cardiac and vascular clinical knowledge and critical care assessment skills
- Skilled in patient rounding, inpatient clinical workflows, and discharge planning
- Ability to manage a variable inpatient census (typical daily averages noted in role)
- Effective communication and collaboration with surgeons, nursing staff, and ancillary teams
- Proficient Epic documentation, order entry, and clinical charting
- Ability to prioritize, triage, and make independent clinical decisions during on-call and weekend coverage
