Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and respond to each patient’s physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs through attentive observation and advocacy
• Set up the operating room with appropriate sterile supplies and equipment according to the schedule and surgeon preferences
• Partner with scrub techs, anesthesia personnel, and surgeons to maintain a safe, efficient, team-oriented environment of care
• Verify patient identity and operative site, transport patients safely, and complete accurate documentation in a timely manner
• Maintain and constantly observe the sterile field throughout procedures to uphold patient safety
• Perform and document time-outs and oversee sponge, needle, and instrument counts before, during, and after surgery
• Prepare and label medications for cases, ensuring proper handling and sterile field placement
• Handle specimens correctly—label, record, and place them in proper containers per policy
• Use appropriate PPE and enforce protective gear use among the team to control infection risk
• Support float/resource needs by maintaining communication across areas, relieving staff for breaks, and keeping case flow on schedule
• Assist with inventory, case cart checks, and periodic preference card reviews to ensure supplies are ready
• Pitch in with housekeeping and turnover duties between cases to maintain a clean, safe OR

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure (Registered Nurse) — active and in good standing
• Experience in Operating Room or perioperative nursing and demonstrated sterile technique
• Proven ability to perform and document surgical counts and time-outs accurately
• Familiarity with medication preparation and labeling on the sterile field
• Comfortable handling specimens and following courier/documentation procedures
• Knowledge of anesthesia supplies and location of emergency carts (crash cart, MH cart) and airway devices
• Ability to float to Phase II (post-anesthesia) or assist in other patient areas as needed
• Available to work the assigned schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:15 AM - 2:45 PM
