Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver compassionate, high-quality nursing care to orthopedic and medical-surgical patients
- Perform thorough assessments, monitor vitals, and respond promptly to changes in condition
- Administer medications and treatments safely and document all care accurately
- Provide expert post-operative orthopedics care, including pain management and mobility support
- Collaborate with surgeons, PT/OT, case management and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care
- Educate patients and families on recovery plans, wound care, and safe discharge instructions
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement and maintain compliance with hospital policies
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — Texas RN or compact RN accepted
- Minimum 1 year clinical experience in Med-Surg, Orthopedics, or related acute care
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS preferred or as determined by facility
- Experience with post-operative orthopedic care and mobility assistance
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment
- Travel nursing experience or a willingness to adapt to new clinical settings is a plus
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment and clinical judgment in med-surg and ortho populations
- Wound care, splinting/casting awareness, and post-op mobility/bone health knowledge
- Proficient documentation and electronic charting skills
- Effective prioritization and time management during busy 12-hour shifts
- Ability to educate patients and families clearly and compassionately
