Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide safe, patient-centered labor and delivery nursing care for mothers and newborns
- Perform fetal monitoring and assess maternal/fetal status to support timely interventions
- Lead and participate in neonatal resuscitation when indicated using NRP protocols
- Respond to obstetric and neonatal emergencies with confidence and clear communication
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and the interdisciplinary team to develop care plans
- Educate and support patients and families through labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum care
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and promptly
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing (eligible to practice in Louisiana)
- Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification — required
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification — required
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification — required
- Prior Labor & Delivery clinical experience preferred (experience with fetal monitoring and L&D workflow)
- Ability to work night shifts and adapt to a fast-paced obstetric environment
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong fetal heart rate interpretation and maternal assessment skills
- Neonatal resuscitation and stabilization knowledge
- Proficient in electronic medical record documentation and charting
- Effective communication and teamwork in high-acuity situations
- Critical thinking and rapid decision-making in obstetric emergencies
- Patient education and compassionate bedside manner for birthing families
