Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor stepdown patients, recognizing changes in condition early and acting decisively
• Provide expert tracheostomy care and ventilator management for complex respiratory patients
• Administer and titrate medications safely, following hospital protocols and physician orders
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses clearly in the electronic health record
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and the multidisciplinary team to create and execute care plans
• Complete required competency exams and skills checklists to maintain high standards of care
• Support safe patient transitions and handoffs, especially on weekends and during high-acuity periods

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (must be verified prior to start)
• Current BLS and ACLS required (PALS/NRP preferred as applicable)
• Demonstrated experience in stepdown or critical care nursing, including tracheostomy and ventilator care
• Ability to work day shifts and be available for weekend coverage
• Willingness to complete compliance requirements (vaccination records or declination, TB test, drug screen, background check) and fit testing
• Completion of Prime Core Competencies Exam and Prime Skills Checklist as part of onboarding

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong airway management and ventilator troubleshooting skills
• Comfort with tracheostomy care, suctioning, and weaning protocols
• Solid assessment skills for hemodynamics and respiratory status
• Clear, efficient clinical documentation and communication
• Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced stepdown environment
• Teamwork mindset and willingness to support colleagues on weekend shifts
