Roles & Responsibilities

• Interpret telemetry strips and sign reads at least once per shift to ensure timely cardiac assessment
• Provide direct patient care for telemetry, med-surgical, orthopedic, spinal and neurologic patients with professionalism and compassion
• Administer set-rate drips such as diltiazem per unit protocols and monitor patient response
• Collaborate with remote monitor techs and unit staff to maintain safe 1:5 patient ratios
• Manage respiratory supports including CPAP, BiPAP and high-flow oxygen as needed
• Chart accurately and efficiently in Cerner to maintain clear, compliant patient records
• Float to other units (East Campus, PCU) when needed while maintaining standard of care
• Participate in unit orientation and ongoing teamwork to support patient throughput and outcomes

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in the applicable jurisdiction
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (telemetry/med-surg experience preferred)
• Comfortable reading and interpreting basic telemetry strips
• Experience with general surgical and orthopedic patients, and care of CVA/TIA patients
• Cerner experience recommended (one day of unit orientation only)
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and meet weekend staffing expectations

Education

• Active RN license required; BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry strip interpretation and cardiac monitoring fundamentals
• MedSurg nursing skills for surgical and orthopedic patient populations
• Familiarity with respiratory supports: CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen
• Competence with set-rate drip management (example: diltiazem)
• Proficient electronic charting in Cerner
• Strong clinical judgement, communication, and teamwork in a fast-paced acute care setting
• Ability to work with remote monitor tech workflows and sign telemetry reads
