Roles & Responsibilities
- Triage every patient entering the emergency care system and prioritize care based on clinical need and patient flow
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and document in-depth nursing histories using EPIC when available
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care and update them continuously based on reassessment
- Deliver evidence-based nursing interventions and manage complications and emergencies per Mount Nittany policies and ENA standards
- Evaluate patient responses and outcomes, documenting changes and communicating with the care team
- Provide patient and family education, including discharge teaching and referrals, to support continuity of care
- Maintain readiness of supplies and equipment to ensure safe, efficient emergency care
- Participate in hourly rounding in the department and half-hour waiting room rounding when needed
Qualifications
- Current Pennsylvania RN licensure (required)
- BLS (American Heart Association) current
- ACLS (American Heart Association) current
- PALS (American Heart Association) current
- Valid NIHSS certification
- Experience in Emergency Department nursing and triage preferred
- Familiarity with Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards
- Comfort with on-call assignments and adaptability to variable patient volumes
Knowledge & Skills
- Triage and nursing assessment across the lifespan (neonate through geriatric)
- Development and implementation of plans of care
- Clinical documentation and EPIC experience (preferred)
- Emergency response and management of acute complications
- Patient and family education and discharge planning
- Strong verbal, written, and professional communication skills
- Ability to remain composed, use sound judgment, and work collaboratively on a team
