Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled occupational therapy services under the direction of the OT, delivering hands-on care that helps residents regain independence
- Assist in evaluating patients' functional abilities and participate in developing individualized treatment plans
- Implement therapeutic activities and adaptive techniques to support activities of daily living
- Document patient progress accurately and timely to ensure continuity of care
- Collaborate with nursing, rehab team members, and families to coordinate patient-centered care
- Recommend and train on durable medical equipment and adaptive devices to improve safety and function
- Promote a safe environment and contribute to ongoing restorative and restorative maintenance programs
Qualifications
- Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential required
- Current state licensure or ability to obtain South Dakota licensure for COTA
- Minimum relevant experience working in a skilled nursing or rehab setting preferred
- Up-to-date CPR/BLS certification as required by facility
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; compassionate, patient-centered approach
Education
- Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program and COTA certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of ADL training, adaptive techniques, and therapeutic activity planning
- Skilled in documentation and use of electronic medical records
- Competence with patient handling, transfer techniques, and safe mobility training
- Ability to assess functional status and implement appropriate interventions
- Excellent interpersonal skills for educating patients, families, and staff
