Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based Labor & Delivery and postpartum care to birthing people and newborns
• Monitor fetal status using AWHONN Advanced FHM or equivalent and respond to changes promptly
• Conduct newborn resuscitation and stabilization following NRP guidelines when needed
• Support breastfeeding and Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative practices at every touchpoint
• Assist with vaginal deliveries and support perioperative care for C-sections when required
• Serve as charge nurse on occasion after completing charge training — lead the team and coordinate safe patient flow
• Float to other units as needed, providing competent care or task-oriented support to keep the unit running smoothly
• Document accurately in the patient record and communicate clearly with families and the interdisciplinary team

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the applicable state (or compact license if applicable)
• Minimum 5 years recent experience in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn care in a clinical setting
• Required certifications: BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced FHM OR RNC-EFM; ACLS OR ALSO required
• Comfortable working 12-hour day shifts with availability for weekends and holidays
• Ability to function as a team player, adapt to floating assignments, and perform as charge nurse after training
• Experience with moderate to high volume labor units (approx. 40 deliveries/month, ~6 C-sections/month) is a strong plus

• Proficiency in fetal heart monitoring and interpretation
• Strong newborn assessment and NRP skills
• Breastfeeding support and Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative practices
• Postpartum assessment, complication recognition, and patient education
• Clinical judgment to prioritize care in a busy L&D/postpartum environment
• Clear communication, teamwork, and documentation skills
• Ability to cross-cover other departments and adapt to changing unit needs
