Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality telemetry nursing care for acute stroke and cardiac patients, monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms
- Perform NIHSS assessments and maintain stroke competency as required
- Administer and titrate medications per protocol (e.g., heparin, amiodarone, Cardizem) and manage vasoactive drips as appropriate
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including RT, pharmacy, ICU and ER to coordinate safe patient transitions
- Respond to telemetry alarms, set alarm parameters in partnership with monitor techs, and interpret strips independently
- Prioritize patient safety and high-acuity care in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment
- Support unit operations by floating to other units when needed and providing reliable coverage
Qualifications
- Active RN license (state license required for submission)
- Minimum 3 years of nursing experience (experience with telemetry/stepdown or high-acuity care strongly preferred)
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS (must have practical experience using NIHSS on the floor)
- Experience with Cerner EMR and Spacelabs monitoring is highly desirable
- Comfort with titration of cardiac medications and managing higher-acuity stroke/cardiac patients
- Chemo certification is a plus but not required
- Ability to work nights, float as needed, and participate in every-other-weekend scheduling
Education
- Active RN license required
- BSN not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Stroke care workflows and NIHSS assessment competency
- Medication titration and vasoactive drip management
- Familiarity with Cerner electronic charting and Spacelabs monitor systems
- Strong critical thinking, prioritization, and rapid assessment skills in high-acuity settings
- Effective communication and teamwork with multi-disciplinary teams (RT, pharmacy, ICU, ER)
