Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and stabilize critically ill patients using advanced ICU skills and clinical judgment
• Monitor telemetry and ventilator settings closely; intervene and escalate per protocol
• Manage complex lines and devices including central lines, chest tubes, and wound VACs
• Perform and support procedures such as therapeutic phlebotomy and physician-led paracentesis
• Administer blood transfusions and post-dialysis assessments safely and accurately
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and document care in Meditech Expanse
• Provide compassionate patient/family education and promote excellent patient experience
• Support unit staffing and teamwork, including orienting travelers and participating in quality initiatives

Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing (compact accepted where applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• BLS and ACLS required; current NIH certification required (annual)
• Comfortable working 2:1 and 3:1 patient ratios
• Experience with ventilators, telemetry monitoring, central line care, and blood transfusion preferred
• Ability to float to PCU or ED and work every-other-weekend schedule

Knowledge & Skills

• Meditech Expanse documentation experience
• Telemetry monitoring (Philips) and interpretation
• Ventilator management and familiarity with CPAP/BiPAP
• Hands-on experience with Baxter infusion pumps and glucometers
• Skill in central line care, chest tube care, NG tube management, and wound VACs
• Comfort with critical care procedures and strong assessment skills
