Roles & Responsibilities

• Administer safe, competent respiratory care per physician orders with focus on emergency, neonatal, pediatric, geriatric and critical care patients
• Initiate, maintain and monitor mechanical ventilation and interpret ventilator waveforms to guide therapy
• Perform arterial blood gas draws and interpret results to inform clinical decisions
• Provide effective airway management including bag-mask ventilation, suctioning, and intubation assistance
• Deliver respiratory medication therapy and translate doses appropriately for neonatal and pediatric patients
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of respiratory procedures and patient progress
• Troubleshoot cardiopulmonary equipment and ensure proper function and safety
• Participate in patient care rounds, in-services, orientation and precepting of new staff and students
• Adhere to infection control, PPE requirements and organizational policies to ensure a safe environment

Qualifications

• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from a COARC-approved program (NBRC guidelines)
• At least 1 year of respiratory therapy experience in a hospital setting
• BLS certification (to be obtained within 90 days of hire)
• NRP certification (to be obtained within 6 months of hire)
• Ability to pass background check, drug screen and any required employee health checks
• Legal authorization to work in the United States
• Comfort working nights and in high-acuity clinical environments

Education

• Graduate of a COARC-approved Respiratory Care Program
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential required
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• BLS (within 90 days) and NRP (within 6 months) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proven competency with mechanical ventilation management and ventilator initiation/monitoring
• Skilled in arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and interpretation
• Strong patient assessment and hemodynamic monitoring knowledge
• Airway management techniques including suctioning and intubation assistance
• Familiarity with cardiopulmonary equipment, troubleshooting and documentation systems
• Experience with pulmonary and cardiac diagnostics (EKG, Holter, stress testing) is a plus
• Ability to teach, precept and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
