Roles & Responsibilities
- Administer safe, competent respiratory care per physician orders with focus on emergency, neonatal, pediatric, geriatric and critical care patients
- Initiate, maintain and monitor mechanical ventilation and interpret ventilator waveforms to guide therapy
- Perform arterial blood gas draws and interpret results to inform clinical decisions
- Provide effective airway management including bag-mask ventilation, suctioning, and intubation assistance
- Deliver respiratory medication therapy and translate doses appropriately for neonatal and pediatric patients
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of respiratory procedures and patient progress
- Troubleshoot cardiopulmonary equipment and ensure proper function and safety
- Participate in patient care rounds, in-services, orientation and precepting of new staff and students
- Adhere to infection control, PPE requirements and organizational policies to ensure a safe environment
Qualifications
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from a COARC-approved program (NBRC guidelines)
- At least 1 year of respiratory therapy experience in a hospital setting
- BLS certification (to be obtained within 90 days of hire)
- NRP certification (to be obtained within 6 months of hire)
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen and any required employee health checks
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Comfort working nights and in high-acuity clinical environments
Education
- Graduate of a COARC-approved Respiratory Care Program
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential required
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- BLS (within 90 days) and NRP (within 6 months) required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proven competency with mechanical ventilation management and ventilator initiation/monitoring
- Skilled in arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and interpretation
- Strong patient assessment and hemodynamic monitoring knowledge
- Airway management techniques including suctioning and intubation assistance
- Familiarity with cardiopulmonary equipment, troubleshooting and documentation systems
- Experience with pulmonary and cardiac diagnostics (EKG, Holter, stress testing) is a plus
- Ability to teach, precept and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
