Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver safe, therapeutic long-term nursing care tailored to each resident
- Perform thorough nursing assessments, document findings, and create/update individualized care plans
- Administer medications and therapeutics accurately and monitor residents for responses and side effects
- Lead and supervise CNAs, LPNs, and other unit staff; provide hands-on delegation and support during your shift
- Act calmly and decisively in emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions
- Provide patient and family teaching, counseling, and discharge planning to support resident wellbeing
- Document resident care and progress accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Serve as charge nurse when needed and contribute to unit quality improvement and policy adherence
- Participate in care conferences, staff meetings, and ongoing competency checks
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma in Nursing)
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required; direct hires must have applied for an Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have an active Alaska license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred (long-term care experience a plus)
- Able to lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform the physical demands of long-term care
- Willingness to work night shifts, full time
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Associate's degree in Nursing, or Diploma in Nursing
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong nursing assessment, care planning, and documentation skills
- Medication administration knowledge and pharmacology awareness
- Infection control practices and multisystem disease management
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) documentation
- Leadership, delegation, and supervision of interdisciplinary staff
- Ability to communicate clearly with residents, families, and the healthcare team
- Competency with basic and specialized equipment (AED, monitoring devices)
- Crisis management and sound clinical judgment in emergent situations
