Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for nuclear medicine studies and ensure their comfort and safety throughout imaging procedures.
- Perform high-quality diagnostic nuclear medicine scans following established protocols and quality standards.
- Operate and troubleshoot equipment including gamma camera, dose calibrator, survey meters, well counter, and thyroid uptake probe.
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and document dosages and procedures in accordance with regulatory and facility guidelines.
- Maintain radiation safety practices and proper use of PPE and lead protective equipment to protect patients and staff.
- Communicate findings, patient status, and procedural details clearly with radiologists, physicians, and the care team.
- Keep the work area organized and clean, report equipment issues, and participate in maintenance and quality assurance activities.
- Participate in teaching and instructional activities to support staff development and student learning.
Qualifications
- Current Hawaii license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (required)
- Current BLS/HCP certification (required)
- One (1) year of Nuclear Medicine experience preferred; new graduates are welcome to apply
- Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear medicine physics, radiopharmaceutical administration, and radiation safety
- Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting ability, and clear communication skills
- Comfort caring for patients of all ages and responding appropriately to varied developmental and clinical needs
Education
- Licensure: Current Hawaii Nuclear Medicine Technologist license
- Certification: Current BLS/HCP (Basic Life Support / Healthcare Provider)
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient preparation and compassionate patient care
- Diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures and imaging protocols
- Operation of gamma cameras, dose calibrators, survey meters, well counters, and thyroid uptake probes
- Safe radiopharmaceutical administration and dose documentation
- Radiation safety practices and proper PPE/lead protective equipment use
- Equipment troubleshooting and routine maintenance
- Effective communication with radiologists and physicians
- Basic life support (BLS/HCP) and emergency preparedness
