Roles & Responsibilities
- Monitor patient cardiac rhythms and vital signs using telemetry equipment with vigilance and care
- Alert nursing staff promptly to significant changes and potential emergencies
- Document rhythm strips, events, and communications clearly and accurately in the patient chart
- Collaborate with nurses and clinicians to support safe, high-quality patient care
- Maintain and troubleshoot monitoring equipment, escalating technical issues when needed
- Provide calm, professional communication to patients and families regarding monitoring procedures
Qualifications
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Telemetry/Monitor Tech certification or completion of an approved telemetry course preferred
- Experience with cardiac rhythm interpretation or previous monitor tech experience is highly desirable
- Comfort working rotating shifts and picking up per diem assignments, including weekends
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize urgent notifications
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Post-secondary coursework or certificate in telemetry/monitoring technology preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Familiarity with telemetry monitoring systems and alarm management
- Basic ECG rhythm recognition and ability to flag critical events
- Proficient documentation skills and comfort using electronic health records
- Good situational awareness and clinical escalation judgment
- Professional bedside manner and strong interpersonal communication
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced acute care environment
