Roles & Responsibilities
- Process, decontaminate, assemble, sterilize and store surgical instruments and equipment with precision
- Inspect instruments and trays for cleanliness, function and completeness to protect patient safety
- Follow established sterilization protocols and infection control policies every day
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, supplies and equipment maintenance
- Collaborate with surgical teams and central sterile colleagues to support smooth OR workflows
- Support inventory management by tracking supplies and reporting replenishment needs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous experience in sterile processing or central sterile is preferred
- Certification such as CRCST or CBSPD is preferred or supported
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to infection prevention practices
- Ability to stand for extended periods and handle moderately heavy instruments
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a fast-paced team
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a sterile processing program or postsecondary certificate recommended
Knowledge & Skills
- Working knowledge of sterilization methods, autoclave operation and sterilization indicators
- Familiarity with surgical instruments, tray assembly and instrument function
- Understanding of infection control principles and sterile technique
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and logging sterilization cycles
- Strong organizational skills and an eye for detail
